In the early weeks of pregnancy, many amazing things are happening in your body. Your baby is developing rapidly. At conception your baby is smaller than a grain of salt and contains all his or her genetic information. Every detail such as hair color, eye color, gender, fingerprints, skin tone, height are all determined. In just three short weeks, your baby’s heart has begun beating and his or her brain has begun developing. Lungs begin to develop at eight weeks. At ten weeks, your baby’s brain is producing 250,000 new neurons every minute and can make muscles move on purpose! Your baby’s major organs are all in place by 11 weeks and your baby can yawn and suck.
If You Are Pregnant
If you are pregnant, you are making choices for two. We provide pregnancy education and connections to community resources that will support healthy choices for both of you. Some medications, alcohol, smoking and toxic stress can be harmful to your baby’s developing organs. If you take medications prescribed by your doctor, you should consult your doctor as soon as you suspect you are pregnant. Both alcohol and smoking have negative side effects for a developing baby. Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and using drugs or tobacco.
An unplanned pregnancy can produce stress. Oasis Pregnancy Care Center’s services may help reduce the stress you may experience from an unplanned pregnancy. Toxic stress causes the hormone cortisol to build up in your system and your baby is affected by this buildup as well. Cortisol is released in response to fear or stress by the adrenal glands as part of the fight-or-flight mechanism. Cortisol build up in your body can lower immune system function, cause high blood pressure, elevate cholesterol and increase your risk for heart disease. We recommend the following tips for reducing stress and lowering cortisol: exercise, prayer, meditation, listening to music, laughter and being with people who care about you. At Oasis Pregnancy Care Centers, you will find people who care about you. Call 813-406-4965 today for a free and confidential pregnancy test and ultrasound.
